Why is it important for a Christian to have a daily devotion?

Daily devotion is treated as a difficult daily task to do and mostly being ignored because of its unrealized value. That obviously because it requires commitment, time, focus, patience, and endurance.

It takes time to get into the habit of doing daily devotions. But once devotions become a part of your daily life, you will begin to realize their importance and amazing benefits.

Here are some key reasons why we should do our daily devotions.

It is a key to our Christian walk, knowing God more by staying connected.

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Philippians 3:10

We need to abide, God expects us to bear the same fruits as we are His branches.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

John 15:4-7

Staying close and in love with God.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Personal follow-up towards spiritual maturity.

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Daily devotion

Dear God, please teach me how to offer you honest sacrifice to spend my time wisely so that daily devotion becomes part of my daily life. Let my efforts and sacrifice of praise come with an open mind and a willing heart. Do not let me hold back, but let me use my resources to honor you fully so that I can be worthy to be called your son. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
