SERVING GOD BUT WANTING TO GIVE UP
Is It Wrong to Feel This Way?
“Why am I still serving when I feel so tired?”
“I used to be passionate, but now I just feel empty.”
“Maybe I should just stop.”
Recently, some servants of God shared this quietly with me.
“I feel burned out.”
“I feel unappreciated.”
“I feel like quitting.”
And the truth is, this struggle is more common than we think.
Many believers who serve faithfully carry a hidden weariness. Even those who truly love the Lord can reach a point where the weight feels heavy.
Let me ask you honestly.
Have you ever shown up week after week…
Stayed committed…
Served faithfully in church…
Yet deep inside felt like giving up?
On the outside, you look steady.
Reliable.
Faithful.
Strong.
But on the inside, your soul feels tired.
You begin asking yourself:
“Am I weak for feeling this way?”
“Should I step back?”
“Did I miss God’s will?”
Pause here.
Feeling tired does not mean you are unfaithful.
Feeling weary does not mean you love God less.
Even God’s servants in Scripture felt this.
Galatians 6:9
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Notice something powerful.
The verse does not deny weariness.
It acknowledges it.
God knows ministry can drain you.
Serving God is joyful. But it is also costly. When we try to carry it in our own strength, it becomes heavy. Many quit not because they hate God, but because they forgot where their strength comes from.
Isaiah 40:29
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”
Here is an important truth.
Burnout often happens when we serve God but neglect to rest in God.
You were never called to serve alone.
You were never called to serve endlessly without renewal.
The danger is not feeling tired.
The danger is giving up without running back to the Lord.
Hebrews 12:3
“For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”
When you feel like quitting, look again to Jesus.
He was misunderstood.
He was rejected.
He was exhausted.
Yet He endured for the will of the Father.
And remember this.
We do not serve to be seen.
We do not serve to be praised.
We serve because Christ first served us.
Mark 10:45
“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
If you feel like giving up:
Do not disappear.
Do not isolate.
Do not quit quietly.
Pray.
Rest.
Refocus.
Ask God to renew your heart.
Psalm 73:26
“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”
God does not measure faithfulness by how loud your service is. He measures it by how surrendered your heart remains.
So here is the reminder someone needs today:
It is okay to pause and be renewed.
But do not give up on what God has called you to do.
If God called you, He will sustain you.
Keep serving.
Not in your strength.
But in His.
God bless.
