Who Do You Trust?
Psalm 118:8-9 (KJV) says:
8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.
In our daily lives, we put trust in many things – our friends, family, work, authorities, technology, and even ourselves. But no matter how reliable something or someone seems, all will fail at some point. The Bible makes it clear that our ultimate trust should be in God alone. He is our “All in All” our everything.
This truth applies to every aspect of life: trust, faith, obedience, giving, commitment, and ultimately when we talk about salvation. Many say they believe in God, yet they do not truly trust Him with their lives. They rely on their own understanding, traditions, science or the works of men rather than fully surrendering to Him, to the finished work done by the only Savior Jesus Christ whom God sent and raised from the dead.
We must fully trust Jesus Christ alone because:
1. ALL WILL FAIL
No matter how powerful or wise someone is, every human being is limited and will not be able to surpass God. The Bible reminds us:
Romans 3:10 (KJV)
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God:
Because of sin, there is a separation between us and God. No human effort can bridge this gap. People put their trust in leaders, religion, intelligence, technology or science, but all these things will eventually fail. Even the most intellectual minds and advanced systems cannot replace the wisdom and sovereignty of God.
This is especially true in matters of salvation. Many try to earn their way to heaven through good deeds or religious practices, yet the Bible clearly states:
Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Everything in this world will always fall short, but God’s grace is sufficient. Trust in Him, not in human efforts.
2. ALL WILL BE FUTILE
People often chase after things that ultimately have no lasting value – wealth, status, success, and even religious traditions that tends to teach the path but overshadows the righteousness of God. Remember that without God and if it is not for God, everything is meaningless.
Galatians 4:9 (KJV)
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
The book of Ecclesiastes also emphasizes this truth:
Ecclesiastes 1:2-3 (KJV)
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
What are you striving for in this life? If it is not for the glory of God, it is all in vain.
Even as believers, we sometimes get distracted by what we see. Just as Peter took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink (Matthew 14:30), we, too, can be overcome by fear, doubt, and worldly concerns. But we must remember:
2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
For we walk by faith, not by sight:
3. ALL WILL FADE
Everything in this world is temporary – our possessions, our achievements, even our very lives.
James 4:14 (KJV)
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Many people invest their time, money, energy and all resources in things that will eventually disappear. But Jesus reminds us:
Matthew 24:35 (KJV)
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
No matter how much we achieve or accumulate in this life, it will all come to nothing if we do not have Christ. The ultimate question is: Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? This is the most important decision anyone will ever make.
Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:Revelation 20:15 (KJV)
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
4. ALL IS FINISHED
The good news is that Jesus Christ has already made a way for us. We do not have to rely on our own efforts, for He has done everything necessary for our salvation.
John 3:16 (KJV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The work of salvation is finished – Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross. Therefore, there is no other way because Jesus if the only way, by God’s grace He already provided for us.
John 14:6 (KJV)
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
All we need to do is trust Him completely. Stop putting your confidence in man, in religion, in wealth, or in your own wisdom. Trust in Jesus alone.
Psalm 146:3 (KJV)
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
So, Is Jesus Your “All in All”?
Knowing that everything in this world will fail, be futile, and fade away, will you still put your trust in men? Or will you place your faith in the eternal, unchanging God?
If you have not yet fully surrendered to Christ, now is the time. Don’t wait. Trust in Him completely.
If you are still relying on your own efforts, achievements, or human wisdom, let go and trust in the Lord completely. Humble yourself, accept Him as your Lord and personal Savior and tell Him “Lord God, you are my All in All.”
Don’t wait until everything in your life fades away. Give your All in All to God today!
Once you’ve accepted Him, walk with Him daily:
Colossians 2:6 (KJV)
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
And trust Him completely from now on:
Proverbs 3:5-7 (KJV)
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
